Dr. Andreescu is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and a licensed psychiatrist, with additional expertise in Geriatric Psychiatry. She also served as the Director of the TMS clinic in the Western Psychiatric Hospital Center for Interventional Psychiatry. Dr. Andreescu graduated from the Carol Davila School of Medicine and Pharmacy from Bucharest, Romania, and completed her training in Geriatric Psychiatry at the University of Pittsburgh, Western Psychiatric Hospital. In the 1990s, she led the GIP young generation program in Romania. She has been the recipient of multiple awards including the International Psychogeriatrics Junior Research Award, the Brain and Behavior Young Investigator Award, the Anxiety Disorders Association of American Donald F Klein Early Career Investigator Award, and the American Psychiatric Association Hartford-Jested Award for Future Leaders in Geriatric Psychiatry. She is currently the director of the ARGO Neuroscience of Aging Research Lab at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Andreescu’s research focuses on the neural markers of late-life mood and anxiety disorders, including structural and functional MRI measures of response to treatment. Her more recent work also explores the effect of late-life severe worry on the aging brain as well as the role of interventions such as TMS in late-life worry and anxiety. Dr. Andreescu is also the President and Chairman of the Board for Global Initiative on Psychiatry-USA.
